Recent years have seen the popularity of stories about "drifting" and "struggle". For the first time, the movie WILD GRASS puts under spotlight the inner changes of the drifting nobodies. Set in a small Chinese city in the 1990s, the film follows two girls and one boy with different dreams in mind: Yun Qiao (by MA Sichun) wants to live a movie-like life; Li Mai (by ZHONG Chuxi) anticipates a hopeful future; and Wu Feng (by HUANG Jingyu) longs for a serious fight in his ordinary life. With hopes intertwined with an unknown future, they begin a journey to a strange land.
In the trailer, Yun Qiao, with a scarred face, is helplessly roaring in the hospital. Her tense performance instantly drags the audience from hope to despair. Struggling between despair and hope, Li Mai indulges herself in a dance in the rain, full of vitality. As the leading actor in the film, HUANG Jingyu has also managed to interpret a more vivid character than before. Through the several close-ups in the trailer, we read calm and resolution from his eyes. So what kind of performance will the three present? As their first collaboration, the film has also brought some challenges to them.

WILD GRASS seems to be a story about people’s drifting and struggling life; in fact, it also touches upon the power of “destiny”. Director XU Zhanxiong, also the writer of KUNG FU YOGA and GUILTY OF MIND, is a noted professional in the film industry. In his first feature film, the courage to bid farewell to hometown and battle with fate even at the cost of life, is intricately woven together. He hopes to produce a movie that is touching and vibrant. The production manager of the film, Leste CHEN, has directed BATTLE OF MEMORIES and THE GREAT HYPNOTIST. His unique control over "suspense" and destiny has added more credit to the movie.
WILD GRASS is produced by Shanghai Jingshu Culture & Media and Beijing Enlight Media; co-presented by Seventh Art Pictures, West Coast Culture, China Central TV & Film Culture, Super Player Film & TV Media, Huarui Pictures, Shanghai Jingshu Pictures, and Land Entertainment; and filmed and produced by Shanghai Jingshu Pictures. Its public release is scheduled on February 28, 2020.
