Mainland actress Zhang Ziyi\'s latest comedy romance, My Lucky Star, will be released in China and North American on September 19th, officials told yesterday\'s ongoing 16th Shanghai International Film Festival.
Directed by Dennie Gordon, the movie follows imaginative comedian Sophie\'s glamorous adventures in trying to find her Mr. Right. It also stars Chinese American singer Leehom Wang. The film is a sequel to 2009\'s Sophie\'s Revenge, Zhang\'s first self-produced movie.
Zhang said she and her team spent more than three years developing the script."A good story is always the heart and soul of a film," Zhang said. "I find it difficult to be a film producer because I have to be careful with every single process in production. But it is truly a fulfilling and interesting experience."
Zhang also recalled her first experience of receiving a love letter from her neighbor when she was a primary school student. During her middle school years, she also helped her upperclassman to pursue a girl by writing his romantic love letters."My rewards at the time were tea-flavored boiled eggs and soda," she said.
Yu Dong, founder and Chairman of Bona Film Group, the film\'s investor, said they are considering making Sophie\'s love stories into a series."A series which explores modern young women\'s romance and friendship might be a Chinese version of Sex and the City," Yu added. "People can get good love lessons."
