A special screening was held yesterday of Roland Joffe\'s period epic There Be Dragons at the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival.
The film is about a London-based journalist who visits Spain to research a book about Josemaria Excriva, founder of the religious institution Opus Dei. He finds not only the secrets of Josemaria\'s life but also those of his father.
The film, a USA/Argentina/Spain co-production, is an eye-catching historical drama nominated for this year\'s Golden Goblet Awards for its distinctive cinematography and perspective.
"It\'s a privilege for the movie to be nominated for the Shanghai International Film Festival," said director Joffe. "I hope it can be seen and well received by a lot of people all over the world."
Joffe is one of the few directors to win Oscar nominations for each of his first two films. He was universally praised for The Killing Fields (1984), and The Mission (1986) attracted seven Oscar nominations, including one for Best Director.
It also won the coveted Palme d\'Or for best motion picture at Cannes Film Festival and took Italy\'s Michelangelo Prize.
