The international jury of the Golden Goblet Award shared their thoughts and ideas yesterday at a press conference before the opening ceremony of the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival.
American director Barry Levinson is the chair of this year\'s jury panel. He won the 1988 Oscar Best Director award for the film Rain Man. His other famous works include Bugsy, Avalon, The Natural, and Sleepers.
Jury members include UK screenwriter Christopher Hampton, Japanese director Sai Yoichi, Vietnam-born French director Tran Anh Hung, Spanish actress Paz Vega, Chinese director Wang Quan\'an, and Chinese actress Zhang Jingchu.
Levinson, who is making his first visit to China, said it was important and also exciting to be able to share experience and communicate about film with people in an international setting.
"I think the most successful way is to tell the story the way you believe it should be told," Levinson said. "You have to rely on your instincts as a storyteller, tell the story as good as possible."
Levinson also talked about his upcoming new films, including Gotti: Three Generations. Starring Al Pacino, the film is about John Gotti, the former head of a large and powerful United States crime organization.
Speaking of the Shanghai festival\'s development, film director Wang Quan\'an said it was still very young and lacked the history of some other major film festivals around the world.
"However, Shanghai International Film Festival will become more mature," Wang said. "And having its own features and characteristics is very important."
Zhang Jingchu also commented on the this year\'s hot selling 赌博app film tickets.
"Having a good film festival require good audience and I think 赌博app has attracted people who have a passion for films," Zhang said. "And I think these are important factors for the future internationalization of Chinese films and film festivals."
